A little film called "Quilt"...

Dragonfly Copyright One Day In May, Creations by Melissa Grant
Today, I found and really enjoyed watching this little film called "Quilt"...

Thank you to Radka of My Stitching Journey for posting the film, so that I could discover it too.

A tribute to the unique and long-established art form of patchwork quilting, this abstract animated film uses computer and experimental techniques to choreograph quilt motifs and designs to music.

You can find the original film listing, information and discussion about the film "Quilt" HERE.

So... did you find it inspiring or overwhelming?
I loved it! Reminds me of the endless possibilities that creativity can bring.

Until next time...

My newest design revealed!

There have been some good guesses at what I've been working on...
The closest one was Jenny, who thought it might have been a storage ottoman.  So close Jenny! : )

"Birds Of The Meadow" is the newest pattern from One Day In May. Featuring a combination of applique birds with dimensional wings and tails, stitchery, patchwork and quilting... they have been such fun to create.

Birds Of The Meadow ~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

These fabric boxes are sized at 6 1/2" x 8" and 8 1/2" x 10". I'm always struggling to find ways of storing projects that I have underway... and thought these would be a pretty way to keep the pattern, fabrics and notions all together and close at hand.

Birds Of The Meadow 2 ~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

After some experimentation, I'm happy to have come up with a fabric box that keeps its shape really well. I've managed to avoid the need for cardboard, plastic or other insert, which is exactly what I was hoping for...

Birds Of The Meadow 3 ~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

The applique and stitchery panels are interchangeable and may be used for either size box.
The feature panel of the larger box is enhanced with a simple patchwork border.

Birds Of The Meadow 4 ~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

The sides of both boxes are pieced and quilted for a soft country feel...

Birds Of The Meadow 5~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

On the back of the larger one, you'll find a handy pocket to store some smaller items for easy access.

Birds Of The Meadow 6~ Fabric Storage Boxes - One Day In May

So there you have it... my secret's out!!

If you are heading to the Quilt and Craft Expo at Rosehill this week, you can find this new design amongst all the other One Day In May projects at the Pattern Press stand. Please stop by to see all the wonderful designs available from Pattern Press and say hello to the girls!

Will you be at the Craft and Quilt Fair in Sydney next week? If you'd like to see all of the One Day In May originals... Waterlily Dreaming ~ As Roses Bloom ~ A Cornflower Gathering and Birds Of The Meadow, please visit...

Birds Of The Meadow...

My little bird has been patiently waiting for his new friend...

She's been designed and ready to stitch for a little while... so he has found the waiting a little tough!

What a tease I have been... but here she is all sewn and in full flight. Can you tell what these new projects are?

Waterlily Dreaming ~ a pattern update...

I'm really happy to say, that I've been receiving some great feedback for my patterns, Waterlily Dreaming ~ Needle Keep and Brooch. I'm told the patterns are easy to follow... which is music to my ears!!

Waterlily Dreaming patterns One Day In May, Creations by Melissa Grant
Last week, through customer feedback, I became aware of an error in the fabric requirements, listed on the back of the Waterlily Dreaming pattern covers. Just one little word...
I had noted that the 1st print needs to be lighter than the 2nd print. It should read "darker".

This will result in the inner petals of the lily being darker than the outer petals {the opposite to the lily shown on the pattern covers}. I have made lilies with lighter and darker centres... but do prefer the look of the darker petals being on the outside.

I couldn't tell you how many times the patterns were checked and rechecked. But I guess no matter how hard we try, sometimes errors like this sneak through undiscovered. Thus far the pattern itself proves to be correct, and the fact that people are saying it is enjoyable and easy to understand has put a great big smile on my face.

I have adjusted the covers to now read as follows...

Waterlily Dreaming ~ Needle Keep
Waterlily Dreaming ~ Needle Keep pattern cover correction

Waterlily Dreaming ~ Brooch
Waterlily Dreaming ~ Brooch pattern cover correction

If you have recently bought a Waterlily Dreaming pattern, please make note of the change. My apologies to anyone following my patterns, and finding this error confusing.

As of today, you can find a "Pattern Corrections and Alterations" page over on the right hand side of the blog. Any future pattern alterations will be listed here. I welcome all customer feedback. It's an important tool in finding missed errors such as this one, and helps me to create an all round better product. Providing a quality pattern that you will enjoy creating is my highest priority.

And on that note, I'll be busy working on my applique bird pattern this weekend...
I love this little chap!

A Wreath For All Seasons ~ Framed Block 2- One Day In May, Creations by Melissa Grant
I have always loved quilts and embroidery with simple tones and colourways. In these early Winter days, I couldn't help but be drawn to these warm reds.
Adding texture and including a dimensional aspect to my projects, is something I always enjoy. There's just a hint of dimension here with these little, felted flowers.
